The State of Our Grapes

We've been back for just over a month and haven't worked in the vinyard much at all. I believe it rained everyday in May. We've given up on a harvest this year, the rain has taken care to give us a mother load of fungus. If you can find a bunch of grapes out there they are horrible looking, like these:

Grapes 07

For the most part what is supposed to be huge clusters of grapes looks like dried up, already eaten grape stems. I'm sad to say it is a HUGE mess out in the vinyard. If we had been here in March to start spraying fungicide religiously, we would probably have a small crop. As is, NOTHING, NADA, ZIP. I'm trying to look at it as a blessing in disguise, we can now work on building our papercrete winery, no, not paper mache. 20% concrete and 80% newspaper, Gardner has been collecting newspaper for a year now and we have enough to make a good start on the building. 1st we need a gynourmous blender. I could search ebay but I think Gardner will build one.

On our social life, we joined the Country Club. LaTeeDa, we are so NOT the country club type. They have the only swimming pool around! The only place that offers swimming lessons in a 20 mile radius! The grand ole Hillsboro Country Club offers a 9 hole golf course, a bar and meeting room and a swimming pool. There's no womens restroom, the only one outside is shared by men and women. It's fine with me, I hope to meet some moms that have at least read a book. We can swim and play and have fun while staying cool this summer AND hopefully meet some nice families.
